Encouraged from early childhood to savor the the delicate themes of 19th century British Literature, Katherine Banning has always admired the UK's rich blend of cultures and dramatic history.
A native of Washington DC, at 16 years old Katherine found herself at the National Gallery of Art just in time to see the groundbreaking "Treasure Houses of Britain" exhibition, which spurred on her pursuit of knowledge about Britain's history and culture. The following summer while visiting Great Britain for the first time, Katherine was convinced that she could learn more as a resident, and immediately began planning her emigration to the UK. At 19, she moved to Dublin, Ireland, where she lived for two years in a Georgian townhouse in the lush and leafy Rathgar area. During this time, she studied British and Irish Literature, Art History, Classical and Landscape Architecture, and Cultural History. She spent time in Irish Castles and Historic House Museums, and traveled to England frequently for research visits to London's Historic Royal Palaces. Currently living in the US, Katherine is a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation (US), the National Trust (UK), as well as English Heritage and the Royal Oak Society. She will graduate from Eckerd College with an honors degree in Museum Studies and Visual Arts in 2009, and will pursue a Master of Arts degree in Museum Studies and Business Management in 2010. |
